Escherichia coli, doğum sırasında bakterileri yutan yenidoğanlarda sepsise neden olur. E. coli'nin enterik yoldan kan dolaşımına seyahat etme kabiliyetinde yer alan süreç tam olarak anlaşılamamıştır.
