Med optogenetisk manipulation af specifikke neuronale populationer eller hjerneregioner, adfærd kan ændres med høj tidsmæssig og rumlig opløsning i frit bevægelige dyr. Ved at bruge forskellige optogenetiske værktøjer i kombination med kronisk implanterede optiske fibre, en række neuronale modulationer og adfærdsmæssige test kan udføres.
