Se creó un sistema normotérmico de perfusión hepática ex vivo (NEVLP) para hígados de ratón. Este sistema requiere experiencia en microcirugía, pero permite resultados de perfusión reproducibles. La capacidad de utilizar hígados de ratón facilita la investigación de vías moleculares para identificar nuevos aditivos de perfusión y permite la ejecución de experimentos centrados en la reparación de órganos.
