Het protocol toont een methode om ruimtelijke correlatie tussen de pre-synaptische terminals, post-synaptische receptoren en peri-synaptische Schwann-cellen in de mediale gastrocnemius-spier van de rat te onderzoeken met behulp van fluorescerende immunohistochemie met verschillende biomarkers, namelijk neurofilament 200, vesiculaire acetylcholinetransporter, alfa-bungarotoxine en S100.
