La infección humana por Entamoeba histolytica conduce a la amebiasis, una causa importante de diarrea en los países tropicales. La infección se inicia por la interacción de agentes patógenos con células epiteliales intestinales, provocando la apertura de los contactos célula-célula y en consecuencia la diarrea, a veces seguido por infección del hígado. Este artículo proporciona un modelo para evaluar las primeras interacciones huésped-patógeno para mejorar nuestra comprensión de la patogénesis de la amibiasis.
