We beschrijven een nieuwe benadering voor gelijktijdige analyse van hersenfunctie en structuur met behulp van magnetische resonantie beeldvorming (MRI). Wij beoordelen de hersenen structuur met een hoge resolutie diffusie-gewogen beeldvorming en witte stof vezels tractografie. In tegenstelling tot de standaard structurele MRI, deze technieken stellen ons in staat anatomische connectiviteit rechtstreeks betrekking hebben op de functionele eigenschappen van de hersenen netwerken.
De studie van complexe computationele systemen wordt vergemakkelijkt door netplannen, zoals schema. Dergelijke mapping is bijzonder verhelderend bij het bestuderen van de hersenen, de functionele rol die een hersengebied voldoet kan grotendeels worden bepaald door de verbindingen met andere hersengebieden. In dit rapport beschrijven we een nieuwe, niet-invasieve benadering voor bijbehorende hersenstructuur en functie met magnetische resonantie imaging (MRI). Deze benadering, een combinatie van structurele beeldvorming van lange afstand glasvezelverbindingen en functionele imaging data wordt geïllustreerd in twee verschillende cognitieve domeinen, visuele aandacht en gezicht waarneming. Structurele beeldvorming wordt uitgevoerd met diffusie-gewogen beeldvorming (DWI) en vezels tractografie, die de diffusie van watermoleculen langs witte stof vezelbanen in de hersenen (figuur 1) volgen. Door het visualiseren van deze vezels traktaten, zijn wij in staat om de lange afstand verbindende architectuur van de hersenen te onderzoeken. De resultaten vergelijken favoraschijnlijk met een van de meest gebruikte technieken in DWI, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). DTI is niet in staat om complexe configuraties van vezels traktaten op te lossen, het beperken van het nut ervan voor de bouw van gedetailleerde, anatomische geïnformeerde modellen van de hersenfunctie. In tegenstelling, onze analyses te reproduceren bekend neuroanatomie met precisie en nauwkeurigheid. Dit voordeel is deels te wijten aan data-acquisitie procedures: terwijl veel DTI protocollen maatregel diffusie in een klein aantal richtingen (bijvoorbeeld 6 of 12), gebruiken we een diffusie spectrum beeldvorming (DSI) 1, 2 protocol dat diffusie beoordeelt in 257 richtingen en op een afstand van magnetische gradiënten. Bovendien DSI gegevens kunnen we meer geavanceerde methoden voor de reconstructie van verkregen data. In twee experimenten (visuele aandacht en het gezicht perceptie), tractografie blijkt dat co-actieve gebieden van de menselijke hersenen zijn anatomisch verbonden, het ondersteunen van bestaande hypothesen dat ze functionele netwerken te vormen. DWI stelt ons in staat om een "circuit diAgram "en te reproduceren op individuele-subject basis, voor het doel van de controle taakrelevante hersenactiviteit in netwerken van belang.
High-resolution DWI en vezels tractografie zorgen voor een krachtige aanpak voor de behandeling van de verbindende structuur van de menselijke hersenen. Hier presenteren we bewijs dat deze structurele architectuur zinvol is gerelateerd aan de hersenfunctie, beoordeeld door fMRI.
