Zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen op oppervlakken is een krachtige aanpak voor de zeer gecontroleerde bereiding van nieuwe materialen. In combinatie met de analyse door in situ secundaire ionen massaspectrometrie (SIMS) en infrarood reflectie absorptie spectroscopie (IRRAS), zachte landing biedt ongekende inzichten in de interacties van welbepaalde soorten met oppervlakken.
Zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen op oppervlakken is een krachtige aanpak voor de zeer gecontroleerde bereiding van materialen die niet toegankelijk zijn met behulp van conventionele synthese technieken. Koppeling zachte landing met in situ karakterisering met behulp van secundaire ionen massaspectrometrie (SIMS) en infrarood reflectie absorptie spectroscopie (IRRAS) maakt analyses van goed gedefinieerde oppervlakken onder schoon vacuüm omstandigheden. De mogelijkheden van drie zachte landing meetmiddelen, vervaardigd in ons laboratorium worden geïllustreerd voor het vertegenwoordigende stelsel van oppervlakte gebonden Organometallics bereid door zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ruthenium tris (bipyridine) dications, [Ru (bpy) 3] 2 + (bpy = bipyridine), op carbonzuur beëindigd zelf-geassembleerde monolaag oppervlakken op goud (COOH-SAM). In situ time-of-flight (TOF)-SIMS geeft inzicht in de reactiviteit van de soft-landde ionen. Bovendien, de kinetiek van ladingsreductietijd, neutralisatie en desorptie zich op de COOH-SAM tijdens en na ion zachte landing bestudeerd middels in situ Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonantie (FT-ICR) SIMS-metingen. In situ IRRAS experimenten geven inzicht in de structuur van organische liganden omringende metaal centra verstoord door immobilisatie van organometallic ionen op COOH-SAM oppervlakken door zachte landing. Gezamenlijk de drie instrumenten geven aanvullende informatie over de chemische samenstelling, reactiviteit en structuur van goed gedefinieerde soorten ondersteund op oppervlakken.
Zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen op oppervlakken blijft een onderwerp van lopend onderzoek van belang vanwege de aangetoonde mogelijkheden van de techniek voor de zeer gecontroleerde bereiding van nieuwe materialen 1-6. Recente inspanningen hebben aangegeven mogelijke toekomstige toepassingen van zachte landing van massa geselecteerde ionen in de bereiding van peptide en eiwit arrays voor gebruik in high-throughput biologisch 7,8, scheiding van eiwitten en conformationele verrijking van peptiden 9-12, covalente aanhechting van peptiden aan oppervlakken 9,10,13,14, chirale verrijking van organische verbindingen 15, elektrochemische karakterisering van specifieke redox-actieve eiwitten 16-18, productie van dunne moleculaire films 19,20, verwerking van macromoleculen, zoals grafeen 21 en voorbereiding van model katalysator-systemen door middel van zachte landing van ionische clusters 22-39, 40-48 nanodeeltjes en organometaaloligomeren complexes op ondersteunende materialen 19,49-56. Het begrip modificeren oppervlakken op zachte landing van polyatomaire ionen werd aanvankelijk kookt en medewerkers voorgesteld in 1977 57. In de daaropvolgende jaren diverse instrumentele benaderingen zijn ontwikkeld voor de gecontroleerde depositie van massa-ionen gekozen uit de gas- fase op oppervlakken 1,4,5. Ionen, zijn geproduceerd door middel van processen zoals elektrosprayionisatie (ESI) 10,58,59, matrix-assisted laser desorptie / ionisatie (MALDI) 21, elektronenimpact ionisatie (EI) 60,61, gepulste boogontlading 62, inert gas condensatie 36 , 63, magnetron sputteren 64,65 en laservaporisatie 25,66,67. Massa selectie van gasfase-ionen voorafgaand aan zachte landing is bereikt voornamelijk gebruik quadrupool massa filters 58,68,69, magnetische afbuiginrichtingen 70, en lineaire ion trap instrumenten 8,59. Een bijzonder notable vooraf ion zachte landing methodiek plaatsgevonden onlangs met de succesvolle implementatie van ambient ion soft-en reactieve landing door koks en medewerkers 71,72. Met behulp van deze verschillende ionisatie en massa-selectie technieken, zijn de interacties van hyperthermal (<100 eV) polyatomaire ionen met oppervlakken bestudeerd om beter inzicht in de factoren die de efficiëntie van ion zachte landing en de concurrerende processen van reactieve en niet-reactieve verstrooiing als evenals oppervlak geïnduceerde dissociatie 4,73-75.
De bereiding van goed gedefinieerde model katalysatoren voor onderzoeksdoeleinden is een bijzonder vruchtbaar toepassing van zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen 25,34,35,56,76-81 geweest. In het groottebereik van nanoschaal clusters, waar fysische of chemische gedrag niet lineair schaal met clustergrootte, is aangetoond dat de toevoeging of verwijdering van afzonderlijke atomen of clusters drastisch kan beïnvloeden their chemische reactiviteit 82-84. Dit verschijnsel nanoschaal, die voortvloeit uit kwantumopsluiting werd overtuigend aangetoond door Heiz en medewerkers 85 voor een model katalysator bestaande uit zachte aangevoerde clusters van acht gouden atomen (Au 8) ondersteund op een defect MgO-rijke oppervlak. Verscheidene studies hebben aanvullend bewijs van de grootte-afhankelijke reactiviteit van clusters ondersteund op oppervlakken 34,77,86,87 ontvangen. Bovendien hoge resolutie elektronenmicroscopie beelden geven aan dat clusters met slechts tien 88 en vijfenvijftig 89 atomen grotendeels verantwoordelijk voor de superieure activiteit van bulk gesynthetiseerde goud katalysatoren gedragen op ijzeroxiden zijn. Gebruikmakend zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen, is het mogelijk om stabiele arrays van grootte geselecteerde clusters en nanodeeltjes die niet diffunderen en agglomereren tot grotere structuren op het oppervlak van dragermaterialen 90-92 bereiden. Deze eerdere studies geven aan dat contiing ontwikkeling, kan zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde clusters en nanodeeltjes een veelzijdige techniek voor het creëren van zeer actieve heterogene katalysatoren die de emergent gedrag van grote aantallen identieke clusters en nanodeeltjes in uitgebreide arrays op oppervlakken exploiteren geworden. Deze zeer goed gedefinieerde systemen kunnen worden gebruikt voor onderzoeksdoeleinden te begrijpen hoe kritische parameters zoals clustergrootte, morfologie, elementaire samenstelling en oppervlaktebedekking invloed katalytische activiteit, selectiviteit en duurzaamheid.
Organometaalcomplexen die doorgaans worden gebruikt in oplossing-fase als homogene katalysatoren kunnen ook worden geïmmobiliseerd op oppervlakken op zachte landing van massa geselecteerde ionen 56,80,81. Bevestigen van ionische metaal-ligand complexen aan vaste dragers naar hybride organisch-anorganische materialen te produceren is momenteel een actief gebied van onderzoek in de katalyse en oppervlaktekunde gemeenschappen 93. Het algemene doel is om de hoge verkrijgenselectiviteit voor een gewenst product van oplossing-fase metaal-ligand-complexen terwijl een eenvoudiger scheiding van producten van katalysator en reactanten in oplossing blijft vergemakkelijken. Op deze wijze oppervlak geïmmobiliseerde organometaalcomplexen profiteren van zowel homogene als heterogene katalysatoren. Door keuze van een geschikt substraat is het mogelijk te handhaven of zelfs verbeteren van de organische ligand omgeving rond het actieve metaalcentrum tegelijkertijd bereiken sterke oppervlakte immobilisatie 94. Zelf-geassembleerde monolaag oppervlakken (SAMs) op goud kunnen met een aantal verschillende functionele groepen worden beëindigd en zijn daarom ideaal systemen om de haalbaarheid van tethering organometallische complexen oppervlakken op zachte landing van massa geselecteerde ionen 95 onderzoeken. Bovendien ionisatie werkwijzen zoals atmosferische druk thermische desorptie ionisatie (APTDI) zijn eerder aangetoond gasfase gemengde metaal anorganische complexen opleverendie niet toegankelijk zijn via synthese in oplossing 96. In dezelfde geest, niet-thermische kinetisch-beperkte synthese en ionisatie technieken zoals magnetronsputteren 65, gas aggregatie 63 en laservaporisatie 66 kan ook worden gekoppeld aan ion zachte landing instrumentatie een veelzijdige route naar nieuwe anorganische clusters en nanodeeltjes ondersteund op bieden oppervlakken.
Om zachte landing van massa geselecteerde ionen ontwikkelen tot een volwassen technologie voor de bereiding van de materialen, is het essentieel dat informatief analysemethoden worden gekoppeld zachte landing instrumentatie voor de chemische en fysische eigenschappen van oppervlakken sonde, tijdens en na de depositie van ionen. Tot op heden hebben een veelheid aan technieken toegepast voor dit doel inclusief secundaire ionen massaspectrometrie (SIMS) 19,97-100, temperatuur geprogrammeerde desorptie en reactie 50,52, laser desorptie en ionisatie 101, gepulste moleculaire bundel reactie 102, infrarood spectroscopie (FTIR en Raman) 98103104, surface enhanced Raman spectroscopie 103.105, holte reactiesig spectroscopie 106, x-ray foto-elektron spectroscopie 35.107, scanning tunneling microscopie 33,108-111, atomic force microscopie 112-114, en transmissie-elektronenmicroscopie 39. Echter, op oppervlakken of gemodificeerd door ion zachte landing meest nauwkeurig karakteriseren, is het cruciaal dat de analyse in situ worden uitgevoerd zonder blootstelling van het substraat aan het milieu in het laboratorium. Eerdere analyses uitgevoerd in situ hebben inzicht gegeven in fenomenen zoals de vermindering van de ionische lading van zacht landde ionen in de tijd 37,38,115,116, de desorptie van zacht geland ionen uit oppervlakken 52, de efficiëntie en de kinetische energie-afhankelijkheid van ion reactieve landing 14,81 en de invloed van de grootteop de katalytische activiteit van clusters en nanodeeltjes afgezet op oppervlakken 117. Bij wijze van voorbeeld, in ons laboratorium hebben we systematisch bestudeerd ladingsreductietijd kinetiek van geprotoneerd peptiden op het oppervlak van verschillende SAMs 3. Deze experimenten werden uitgevoerd met een unieke zachte landing instrument gekoppeld met een Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonantie secundaire ionen massaspectrometer (FT-ICR-SIMS) waarmee in situ analyse van oppervlakken tijdens en na zachte landing van ionen 97. Uit te breiden deze analytische vermogens, werd een ander instrument gebouwd waarmee in situ karakterisering van zacht geland ionen op oppervlakken met behulp IRRAS 104. Dit oppervlak-gevoelige infrarood techniek maakt bindingsvorming en vernietiging processen en conformationele veranderingen in complexe ionen en oppervlaktelagen te controleren in reële tijd tijdens en na zachte landing 12. Bijvoorbeeld, met IRRAS wasaangetoond dat ion zachte landing mag worden covalent immobiliseren massa geselecteerde peptiden op N-hydroxysuccinimidylester gefunctionaliseerde SAM 13,14.
Hierin, illustreren we de mogelijkheden van drie unieke klantspecifieke instrumenten ligt aan de Pacific Northwest National Laboratory die zijn ontworpen voor in situ TOF-SIMS, FT-ICR-SIMS en IRRAS analyse van substraten geproduceerd door middel van een zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen op oppervlakken. Als vertegenwoordiger systeem, presenteren we de resultaten voor zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde organometallic ruthenium tris (bipyridine) dications [Ru (bpy) 3] 2 + op carbonzuur beëindigd SAM (COOH-SAM) aan geïmmobiliseerd organometaalcomplexen bereiden. Het blijkt dat in situ TOF-SIMS biedt de voordelen van extreem hoge gevoeligheid en grote totale dynamische bereik die identificatie van lage abondantie van soorten waaronder reactieve tussenproducten faciliteert die alleen kan voorafliet korte tijd op de oppervlakken. TOF-SIMS geeft ook inzicht in hoe het verwijderen van een ligand uit een organometallische ionen in de gasfase, voor zachte landing, beïnvloedt de efficiëntie richting immobilisatie op oppervlakken en chemische reactiviteit op gasmoleculen. Aanvullende karakterisering middels in situ FT-ICR-SIMS geeft inzicht in de ladingsreductietijd, neutralisatie en desorptie kinetiek van de dubbel geladen ionen op het oppervlak, terwijl in situ IRRAS tast de structuur van de organische liganden rond het geladen metalen centra die kunnen beïnvloeden elektronische eigenschappen en reactiviteit van het geïmmobiliseerde ionen. Collectief, illustreren we hoe zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen in combinatie met in situ analyse door SIMS en IRRAS geeft inzicht in de interacties tussen welbepaalde soorten en oppervlakken die gevolgen hebben voor een breed scala aan wetenschappelijke inspanningen hebben.
Zachte landing van in massa geselecteerde ionen wordt in het algemeen uitgevoerd in dienst unieke custom-built instrumentatie die bestaat in verschillende laboratoria over de hele wereld die speciaal zijn uitgerust voor deze experimenten.
