Um método simples para a identificação de patógenos bacterianos prioridade é a utilização de fagos repórter geneticamente modificadas. Estes fagos repórter, que são específicas para sua espécie de hospedeiro particular, são capazes de transdução rapidamente uma resposta de sinal bioluminescentes para células hospedeiras.
