Nous décrivons une nouvelle approche pour l'analyse simultanée des fonctions du cerveau et de la structure à l'aide imagerie par résonance magnétique (IRM). Nous évaluons la structure du cerveau à haute résolution imagerie de diffusion et tractographie de fibres de la substance blanche. Contrairement norme IRM structurelle, ces techniques nous permettent de relier directement la connectivité anatomique à propriétés fonctionnelles des réseaux cérébraux.
L'étude des systèmes complexes de calcul est facilitée par des cartes de réseau, tels que les schémas de circuit. Cette cartographie est particulièrement intéressante lorsque l'on étudie le cerveau, comme le rôle fonctionnel qui remplit une zone du cerveau peut être largement définie par ses connexions aux autres zones du cerveau. Dans ce rapport, nous décrivons un roman, non-invasive approche pour mettre en relation la structure et la fonction cérébrales par résonance magnétique (IRM). Cette approche, une combinaison de l'imagerie structurelle des connexions fibre longue portée et des données d'imagerie fonctionnelle, est illustrée dans deux domaines distincts cognitives, l'attention visuelle et la perception visage. Imagerie structurelle est réalisée avec imagerie de diffusion (DWI) et tractographie de fibres, qui permettent de suivre la diffusion des molécules d'eau le long des faisceaux de fibres de matière blanche dans le cerveau (figure 1). En visualisant ces faisceaux de fibres, nous sommes en mesure d'étudier l'architecture à long terme conjonctif du cerveau. Les résultats se comparent favorablement avec l'une des techniques les plus couramment utilisées dans les CFA, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). DTI est incapable de résoudre des configurations complexes de faisceaux de fibres, ce qui limite son utilité pour construire des modèles détaillés et anatomiquement informés du fonctionnement du cerveau. En revanche, nos analyses reproduire neuroanatomie connue avec précision et exactitude. Cet avantage est dû en partie à des procédures d'acquisition de données: alors que de nombreux protocoles de diffusion DTI mesure dans un petit nombre de directions (par exemple, 6 ou 12), nous utilisons un spectre de diffusion d'imagerie (DSI) 1, 2 protocole qui évalue la diffusion dans 257 directions et dans une plage de forces magnétiques à gradient. En outre, les données DSI nous permettre d'utiliser des méthodes plus sophistiquées pour reconstruire des données acquises. Dans deux expériences (attention visuelle et la perception du visage), tractographie montre que les zones de co-actives du cerveau humain sont en connexion anatomique, en soutenant des hypothèses existantes qu'elles forment des réseaux fonctionnels. DWI nous permet de créer un "circuit diagram "et la reproduire sur une base individuelle, sous réserve, dans le but de l'activité du cerveau de suivi des tâches pertinentes dans les réseaux d'intérêt.
Haute résolution CFA et tractographie de fibres fournissent une approche puissante pour examiner la structure de connexion du cerveau humain.
