I samkultursystemet af dorsale rodganglier og Schwann-celler kan myelinering af det perifere nervesystem undersøges. Denne model giver eksperimentelle muligheder for at observere og kvantificere perifer myelinering og studere virkningerne af forbindelser af interesse på myelinskeden.
