Het chronische wanhoopsmuismodel (CDM) van depressie bestaat uit repetitieve geforceerde zwemsessies en nog een vertraagde zwemfase als uitlezing. Het vertegenwoordigt een geschikt model voor inductie van een chronische depressieve toestand die stabiel is gedurende ten minste 4 weken, aanpasbaar om subchronische en acute behandelingsinterventies te evalueren.
