De kolonievormende cel (CFC) assay is een in vitro assay waarin hematopoietische voorlopercellen vormen kolonies in een semi-vast medium. Een combinatie van kolonie morfologie, celmorfologie en flowcytometrie worden gebruikt om het vermogen van de voorouders te laten groeien en differentiëren langs de verschillende hematopoietische lijnen te beoordelen.
