אנו מציגים פרוטוקול לאפיון אלקטרופיזיולוגי של פוטופיגמנטים דו-יציבים: (1) ניצול תזוזות המטען בתוך מולקולות הפוטוגמנט בעקבות בליעת הפוטונים וכמותם העצומה בפוטורצפטורים, ו-(2) ניצול הבדלי הספיגה-ספקטרום של מצבי הפוטוגמנט של רודופסין ומטרהודופסין. פרוטוקולים אלה שימושיים לסינון מוטציות המשפיעות על מערכות פוטופיגמנט דו-יציבותיות.
