We presenteren een methode om gerichte oud DNA-sequentie ophalen, die we gebruikt om de complete mitochondriale genoom van vijf Neanderthalers individuen te reconstrueren. Vergelijking van deze sequenties met de huidige dag mensen suggereert dat Neanderthalers een langdurige lage effectieve populatiegrootte had.
