Hazel Sive

Hazel Sive is Professor of Biology at MIT, Member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and Associate Member of the Broad Institute. She received the B.Sc. Hons. from University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and the Ph.D. from Rockefeller University. Her groundbreaking research focuses on neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders, as well as fundamental processes underlying brain and craniofacial development. Dr. Sive also focuses on education and training. She is a MacVicar Faculty Fellow, MIT’s highest undergraduate teaching award. She teaches Introductory Biology to undergraduates and Developmental Biology to graduate students. She is former Associate Dean of Science with oversight for equity and education. Dr. Sive is Director of MIT-Africa, an initiative that promotes collaboration between MIT and Africa, and Director of Higher Education for the new Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL) at MIT. She is committed to communicating to the powerful contributions that scientific research makes to health and society.
