In this video, we show a procedure to surgically isolate the corneoscleral button to generate an ex vivo porcine cornea model. The model is helpful for histological, pathological, and pharmacological studies due to its similarity to the human eye.

Protocol

All procedures involving animal models have been reviewed by the local institutional animal care committee and the JoVE veterinary review board. 1. Sterilization CRITICAL STEP: Disinfect all forceps and scissors by soaking for 1 h in 5% (v/v) solution of Distel in distilled water, clean with a brush, rinse with tap water and sterilize in an oven at 185 °C for a minimum of 2 h.
