Murashov Alexander Murashov is a Professor of Physiology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, as well as a member of the East Carolina University Diabetes and Obesity Institute. He graduated from the 2nd Medical Institute Moscow, Russia, and received his doctorate in Physiology from the Anokhin Institute of Physiology, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.During Dr. Murashov’s training, he became fascinated by epigenetic mechanisms of the stress response. He was a Postdoctoral Scientist from 1992-1995 at Columbia University in the laboratory of Dr. Debra J. Wolgemuth, and Associate Research Scientist until 1999. Since then Dr. Murashov has served on the faculty of East Carolina University. The research of Dr. Murashov focuses on regeneration of the mammalian nervous system, specifically on molecular mechanisms of axon growth. Recently, he has focused on the role miRNA plays in the epigenetics of transgenerational traits. Dr. Murashov was the first to show that exercise plays a role in transgenerational epigenetic programming of "thrifty phenotype."
