Fedtsyre trofiske markør tilgang, dvs., assimilation af fedtsyrer som hele molekylet og overførsel til forbrugeren væv med ingen eller mindre ændring, hæmmes af viden huller i fedtsyre metabolisme af små jord hvirvelløse dyr. Isotopologue profilering er fastsat som et værdifuldt redskab til at udrede trofiske interaktioner.
