Profylaktisk og terapeutisk vaksinasjon ofte ikke klarer å stimulere sterke immunreaksjoner på grunn av uken drenering av vaksinen til lymfeknuter og dermed dårlig involvering av immunceller. Ved direkte tilførsel av vaksinen til lymfeknuter, såkalt intralymphatic injeksjon, kan vaksineeffekt forbedres være sterkt og vaksinedoser kan reduseres.
