Protokollen beskriver en effektiv og reproducerbar model til undersøgelse herpes simplex-virus type 1 (HSV-1) latens og reaktivering. Assayet anvender homogene sympatiske neuron kulturer og tillader den molekylære dissektion af virus-neuron interaktioner med en række værktøjer, herunder RNA-interferens og ekspression af rekombinante proteiner.
