פרוטוקול זה מפרט חקירה של האינטראקציות המוקדמות בין תאי אפיתל האף נגועים ויראלית והפעלת תאים מולדים. ניתן להבחין בין תת-קבוצות בודדות של תאי מערכת החיסון בהתבסס על הפעלתם בתגובה לזיהומים ויראליים. לאחר מכן הם יכולים להיחקר עוד יותר כדי לקבוע את השפעתם על תגובות אנטי ויראליות מוקדמות.
