Den alvorlige organmangel har ført til økt bruk av marginale nyre grafts for transplantasjon. Dette har utløst interesse for alternative lagringsmetoder, siden marginal grafts spesielt tolerere kjølelager dårlig. Teknikken med normotermisk ex vivo nyre perfusjon (NEVKP) representerer en ny fremgangsmåte for konservering nyretransplantater før transplantasjon.
