Dit deel van de titratiecurve is vergelijkbaar met dat van een zwak monoprotisch zuur en een sterke base.Het heeft een equivalentiepunt en de pH van de oplossing op het halve equivalentiepunt is gelijk aan pKa1. Naarmate er meer base wordt toegevoegd, neutraliseert het het tweede ioniseerbare proton. Omdat de concentratie van waterstofsulfietion gelijk is aan het oorspronkelijke zwavelzuur, is dezelfde hoeveelheid base nodig om het te neutraliseren.Daarom zijn twee mol base nodig om één mol diprotisch zuur volledig te neutraliseren. De titratiecurve voor de tweede neutralisatiestap heeft ook een tweede halve equivalentiepunt, waar de pH van de oplossing gelijk is aan pKa2, en een tweede equivalentiepunt, dat in het basisgebied ligt. Evenzo heeft de curve voor de titratie van triprotisch fosforzuur met een sterke base drie equivalentiepunten.Daarom is tijdens de titratie van zwak polyprotisch zuur het aantal equivalentiepunten dat wordt gegenereerd in de titratiecurve gelijk aan het aantal aanwezige ioniseerbare protonen, zolang het verschil tussen de Ka-waarden van de ioniseerbare protonen meer dan tienduizendvoud is.
