Hier wordt een procedure beschreven voor de oprichting van systemische infectie in de neonatale rat met culturen van Escherichia coli K1. Deze niet-invasieve procedure toestaat kolonisatie van het maagdarmkanaal, translocatie van het pathogeen in de systemische circulatie, en invasie van het centraal zenuwstelsel bij de choroid plexus.
