De zaailing overstromingstest vergemakkelijkt een snelle screening van wilde tomaten toetredingen voor de weerstand tegen de Pseudomonas syringae bacterie. Deze test, gebruikt in combinatie met de zaailing bacteriële groei test, kan helpen bij het verder karakteriseren van de onderliggende weerstand tegen de bacterie, en kan worden gebruikt om het scherm mapping populaties om de genetische basis van resistentie te bepalen.
